Most bloggers, at least once in their career, find themselves thinking: what should I write about? What do my readers want to read? What do people look for? These are also questions that many bloggers just starting out want to know an answer to, in order to decide what kind of blog they should write. If this same question is crossing your mind, here are 5 great ways to choose a blog topic:
Buzzsumo is an online tool that allows you to know what content is trending on major social networks. This includes Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Pinterest and even LinkedIn. By using this tool you can always know what’s “hot” on social media and write about it on your blog to drive views your way. When used the right way, it can even show content about to trend, right before it happens so you can be ahead of the curve.
This tool also allows you to analyze your competitors and get warnings when someone publishes content regarding your keyword, but those functions, in spite of being really useful, won’t really help you pick topics to write about so I’ll just gloss over them.
2- Find a topic at Quora.com
Quora is a website where the community can post questions and answers to posted questions. Why is this good for you? Well, if you know what people are asking for on the internet, and what sort of content interests them, you know what to write about that will bring a lot of traffic your way. All you need to do is select a question you find interesting, do your research on the topic, and then write about it on your blog, so people no longer have to look for an answer elsewhere.
3- Find a popular topic on Reddit
Reddit is a huge social news website where registered users can submit links, images, text and any other content they can think of, to be voted up or down in the popularity rank by the community. Again, much like Quora, this will allow you to see what is trending with the online community. Reddit also gives you the option to see what are the most popular posts in your country or any other you choose. One thing Reddit has going for it that Quora doesn’t is that people are posting content, not questions, and this will allow you (if you keep an eye out) to know about some news before they blow up in popularity. If you write about things you believe are going to be big, and you end up being right more often than not, this not only means you have an amazing sense, which is always useful when you’re a blogger but also, that you will gain notoriety in no time.
4- Use Google
Everybody knows what Google is any better than that, everybody uses Google. And there’s a really good free tool for you in plain sight when you use Google, called Google Autocomplete
That’s right, did you ever think of using it to your advantage? Most people don’t, but if you use it right, you’ll always be in the top 10% bloggers getting interesting content out there.
Tip: You can install a Chrome Extension tool “Keyword Everywhere” and will show you the search volume on every word that you type into Google.
Imagine you want to write about cats (always a hot topic online), all you have to do is go to Google.com and google something along the lines of “Do cats…” and let Autocomplete do the rest! You’ll tons of ideas this way, and with the guarantee that people actually google about that subject.
Another way to find more topics to write about is to look at the suggested words on the bottom of the page:
5-What should I blog about to make money?
This is another approach you can take: how to make the most money. If you don’t have a passion for writing about any topic in particular and see blogging as more of a way of making some extra bucks, you can decide to have a blog settled in a niche which generates a lot of traffic. As you know, blogs make money through advertising, earning more money the more traffic you have. Following that line, the topics that generate the most money, are topics that help people improve themselves in some way. “How to make money”, “how to get the ideal body”, “how to be a great parent”, “how to cook this delicious dish shown in the photo” are just some examples of blog niches that will always make you money.
After all these suggestions, you no longer have an excuse to procrastinate on writing that blog. Get a little push on the internet to pick a topic, and conquer the blogging world with it.
